It’s often said that as summer comes to an end, Gower gets quiet. For local business owners though, the work doesn’t stop.

This is certainly the case for Andrew and Gaynor Richards – owners of Llanrhidian Holiday Park for 25 years. Initial work is in process to introduce a dog grooming parlour, a larger hair, nails and beauty salon and a small gym. Plus, an imminent delivery of an array of brand new, luxury caravans…

Andrew Richards – still feels the excitement every year when the new caravan models arrive: “There’s a real buzz about the place when the first couple of caravans get to Llanrhidian. After all these years I still can’t wait for them to get here, and all the staff are the same! We take real pride in the quality of the vans and genuinely love showing them off to prospective new holiday home owners.”

By the looks of things, the staff at Llanrhidian Holiday Park have good reason to show off their 2018 fleet.

Gone are the days when a caravan holiday meant cramming into a singular space resulting in a lack of privacy and a cramped, less-than-relaxing environment. Instead, 21st-century-holiday homes are a thing of beauty, with many affording all the luxuries of a flat or apartment.

“My favourite is the ABI Beaumont,” says Mitzi Richards, daughter of Andrew and Gaynor. “I love the colour scheme. It’s also big and spacey, it feels like a proper home. I would have no problems having my German shepherd in there – you couldn’t do that in the old-school vans!

Speaking of homeliness – all the latest models are fitted with double-glazing and come with central heating as standard, meaning that you can cocoon yourself in the cosiness of your caravan when the weather is less than desirable outside: perfect for all-year-round escapes to Llanrhidian.

“We only close the site for three weeks in January, meaning that you’re able to get value for money and a holiday whenever you want. Holiday homeowners seem to be spending more time than ever before at the park in autumn and winter including Christmas and New Year, so we’ve adapted our approach and the services we offer accordingly.”

One such service is The Purple Badger – a quirky bar and restaurant set on Llanrhidian Holiday Park itself. The Purple Badger is open throughout the season offering not only outstanding food and drink but also a whole host of events: Christmas tribute nights every weekend in December (including a cracking Neil Diamond!)
